How fake-friendly is your primary packaging?
Packaging specialist invites healthcare companies to join forces
against proliferating counterfeit medicines: www.stop-fake-drugs.com
Every two minutes a child dies of malaria, a disease that can be cured with the right medicine. However, one third of all malaria drugs sold in Africa are counterfeit, containing nothing more than chalk or powder laundry detergent. In Southeast Asia, some 36% of anti-malarial drugs are counterfeit drugs. Although prevention efforts have been stepped up significantly, malaria still kills 650,000 people worldwide every year.
Any attempt to end this tragedy calls for a joint effort across the whole pharma industry. As pharmaceuticals in many developing countries are sold without any secondary packaging features, Constantia Flexibles anti-counterfeiting experts point out the importance of distinctive primary packaging. Applying highly advanced technologies, primary packaging can be made truly fake-proof.
Pierre-Henri Bruchon, Executive Vice President at Constantia Flexibles Pharma Division, urges pharmaceutical companies to reduce their risk: “Counterfeit drugs offer higher profit margins than approved drugs and are thus capturing the interest of organized crime. Pharmaceutical manufacturers need to understand that counterfeit drugs not only threaten innocent lives but can also potentially harm their own brands. We cordially invite healthcare companies worldwide to join our campaign at www.stop-fake-drugs.com.”
